Awas / were + -ing: geçmişte belli bir anda süren eylem
Past continuous geçmişte belli bir anda yarım kalmış, sürmekte olan eylemi anlatır. Türkçede "-yordu" ile çevrilir.

Cwhile ve arka plan anlatımı
while "-yorken" anlamına gelir ve genellikle süren eylemle (was / were + -ing) kullanılır. İki eylem aynı anda sürüyorsa ikisi de -ing olabilir.

DDurum fiilleri ve was / were being + V3
Durum fiilleri (know, contain, believe, need) geçmişte de genellikle -ing almaz. Edilgen süreklilik ise was / were being + V3 ile kurulur: "o sırada yapılmaktaydı".
